Toronto's Best (Discussion)

oLahav saidFri, 16 Jan 2009 17:24:55 -0000 ( Link )

Here’s a fun discussion- you know how local papers always publish they’re “best” list of random things in the city? I thought we could try making one.

So if you know Toronto’s best, throw them in. It can be anything- best streetcar route, best pizza place, best shoe store, best-looking building, you name it. Sounds like fun?

Ok, I’ve got one. How about Toronto’s best subway station? My personal opinion says this one goes to Spadina. The new Museum station looks great, sure, but if you want to actually look at the statues you’d have to stand on the tracks, which makes no sense. Spadina Station isn’t glamorous at all, but it’s got a great location on two central subway lines, while being a lot less ugly and crowded than either Bloor/Yonge or St. George. Feel free to refute me though if you think other stations are nicer, I haven’t seen them all (I’ve seen all the ones on Yonge-University-Spadina, but I don’t use the other lines much).

Best Street Car route – 502 I think that’s the one it runs from the East end in the beaches right through the middle of downtown and out through the Queen Street West shopping and club district. If you ever have some time and a couple of dollars and find yourself in Toronto jump on the 502 and ride it from end to end and you will know what Toronto is all about

Best music store- Steve’s, on Queen W. I bought my first acoustic guitar there. The people there are really nice and they know music. When you enter, it’s like you’re a different world that’s all about guitars and all sorts of instruments.

Best Burger King Location- The Burger King on Bloor West. Ok, it’s pretty much the same as any other Burger King, but the location’s good.

You beat me to it, Oren! Hopefully this community can showcase all of “Toronto’s Best”. Best Subway Station is Museum – because I love how the station looks like a museum. It even has fake mummies as columns. That way, you’ll always know you’ve reached station where the ROM is (Royal Ontario Museum). I also love Bloor Station because it’s where the two main subway lines intersect and all the hustle and bustle of people are.

The best burger place is Apache Burger at Bloor & Kipling. A little out of the way for sure, but it’s well worth the trip. Johnny Burger at Sheppard & Victoria Park is great too.

Thanks, I’ve been looking for a good burger place. There’s a good burger place near where I live, up North on Yonge (past Steeles I think, so it’s not actually in Toronto).

Best Toronto-based newspaper is the Star. This has nothing to do with my political standing, it’s just because the Star has the best Saturday comic strips.

Oh, and Toronto’s best square is Nathan Phillips, of course! Do we even have any other squares worth mentioning?

I like Metro’s crossword puzzle on the back page. Metro takes condensed articles from other news agencies but I think it’s good to get a quick update on the news when you’re on the subway or something. And since it’s free, I guess you can’t really expect award-winning journalism in it.
